How to put together a set from several pairs
A set of earrings means in practice several pairs that you wear together: either spread across several piercings in the same ear or in a deliberate mix, where a small stud plays off against a huggie. At Longvé each pair is sold separately, so you put together your own set from what should match, rather than taking a pre-packed selection. The advantage is that you decide both the number of pairs, the size and the metal, and that each pair is made in 14K gold or white gold instead of gold-plated brass. If you want to start with a base pair, a Stud 14K Gold | Pair is a simple core to build around. The rest of this page helps you choose the pairs that suit one another.
Which pairs go together in one set
A set holds together when the pairs share either metal or setting. If you choose yellow or white gold as the recurring colour, the shapes can well vary: a round stud, a huggie and an emerald-cut stone next to one another give variation without being noisy. The calmest combination is to repeat the same setting in different sizes, for example a Tiny Prong Diamond Stud of 0.03 ct. together with a Small Prong Diamond Stud - 14K Yellow Gold (0.12 ct.) | Pair. Prong means that the diamond is held by small claws, so it sits raised and catches light from the side. If you want a calmer, more closed look, go for bezel, where the stone is set in an edge of gold all the way around. The entire selection of each lies under prong jewellery and bezel jewellery.
Earrings set for 3 piercings
If you have three piercings in the ear, a staircase in size works best: the largest pair at the bottom in the lobe piercing and the smallest furthest up. A graduated sequence could be a Medium Prong Diamond Stud - 14K Yellow Gold (0.34 ct.) | Pair at the bottom, a Small Prong Diamond Stud - 14K Yellow Gold (0.12 ct.) | Pair in the middle and at the top the very smallest at 0.03 ct. When all three pairs are prong-set and in the same metal, the ear reads as one unified progression rather than three random earrings. If you want to break the straight line, the top piercing can instead get a Tiny Huggies - 14K Yellow Gold | Pair, which hugs the edge of the ear closely. You will find the selection of the smallest rings under tiny huggies.
Earrings set for 4 piercings
With four piercings there is room to mix stud and huggie without it becoming too much. A common build is two studs in the two lowest piercings and a huggie in one of the top ones, where the ring can follow the curve of the ear. A Small Huggies - 14K Yellow Gold | Pair is a discreet ring to start with, while a Medium Huggies - 14K Yellow Gold | Pair gives more weight if it is to be the eye-catcher of the set. Keep the metal the same across all four piercings, so the variation lies in shape and size, not in colour. Both rings and studs in different sizes come together under huggies and prong stud.
Earrings set in gold or white gold
The metal is what binds the set together, so the first decision is yellow or white. 14K gold gives a warm tone that stands out clearly against the skin, while 14K white gold is cooler and lets the diamonds appear more neutrally. Each pair on the page comes in both colours, so you can keep the entire set in one tone. If you want to see the two metals together, they lie under gold and white gold. Mixing yellow and white in the same set can be done, but it requires that you do it deliberately with repetition in both colours rather than a single deviating pair.
Natural or lab-grown diamonds in the set
Several of the pairs come both with natural and with lab-grown diamonds. A lab-grown diamond has the same chemical and optical properties as a natural diamond and is grown in a laboratory instead of being mined. The difference to the naked eye is none, while the price is typically lower, which matters when you buy several pairs for one set. If you want to keep the expense down and at the same time get more carat for the money, you can build the entire set from lab-grown pairs, for example a Small Prong Lab-grown Diamond Stud - 14K Yellow Gold (0.12 ct.) | Pair. You will find the entire selection under lab-grown diamonds. If you want to read more about what they are, there is a walkthrough in the article what are lab-grown diamonds.
Mix of studs and huggies
A mix does not need many pairs to look thought-through. Two pairs can be enough: a stud in the lowest piercing and a huggie above it, so you get both a point of light and a ring that follows the ear. A Bezel Diamond Stud - 14K Yellow Gold (0.14 ct.) | Pair together with a Small Diamond Huggies - 14K Yellow Gold (0.14 ct.) | Pair keeps the diamond at the same size in both pairs, so the two shapes still hang together. If you want a pair that in itself contains several stones, a double huggie is an alternative, where two rings sit together. See the selection under double huggies.
A set as a gift
Several pairs together work well as a gift, because the recipient gets both a complete look and the freedom to vary it. If you want to hit a broad taste, two pairs in the same metal with the same setting are a safe choice, as they go together no matter how they are worn. If you are in doubt about size or colour, a gift card covers it, so the recipient can put together their own set. If the gift has to stay within a certain budget, you can sort by price under gifts under DKK 2,000 and gifts under DKK 6,000.
Are the diamond earrings hypoallergenic
All pairs are in 14K gold or white gold, that is real gold alloys and not gold-plated metal, where the coating can wear off and expose a base with nickel. That makes them suitable for ears that react to jewellery of lower quality. If a pair nevertheless becomes discoloured over time, it is most often due to skin oils, soap residue and cream, not the metal itself. There is a walkthrough of the causes in the article why do my earrings turn black.
How to keep the set clean
When you wear several pairs close together, they collect oil and dust in the settings faster than a single pair does. Clean them with lukewarm water, a little mild soap and a soft brush, and wipe afterwards with a lint-free cloth, so the diamonds keep their shine. Avoid putting the pairs in right after you have used perfume or hair products, as it settles in the gold. A more thorough procedure is given in the articles how to clean earrings and how to clean jewellery.
