Silver jewellery for everyday and special occasions
You may be looking for a piece of jewellery that suits both everyday casual clothes and a special evening, without stealing the whole picture. Silver has a cool, subdued shine that goes with almost anything, and at Longvé it comes as signet rings, necklaces and bracelets in different widths. On this page you will find an overview of the silver range and concrete advice on how to choose the right model, how to combine several pieces of jewellery, and how to care for them so they keep their look year after year.
Sterling silver is silver mixed with a little other metal for strength
Pure silver is too soft for jewellery that is worn every day. That is why jewellery silver is made as sterling silver, which consists of 92.5 percent silver and a small portion of other metal, most often copper, which makes the material stronger and more durable. It is the same alloy you find in Longvé's signet rings, necklaces and bracelets. The result is a piece of jewellery that withstands daily wear, yet still has silver's bright, slightly cool colour. Silver is softer than gold, and therefore a silver piece can gradually develop small scratches and signs of wear. Most people find that the fine marks gather into a soft surface that bears the character of being used.
Signet rings in sterling silver with a flat plate
A signet ring has a wide, flat band that provides plenty of surface to display the ring clearly on the hand. At Longvé the silver signet ring comes in several shapes, so you can choose the line that suits your hand and your taste. A rectangular signet ring has an elongated plate, a square signet ring has a square surface, and an oval signet ring has a softer, rounded shape. All three are available in a wide size range from 42 to 68, so there is room for both slim and thicker fingers. The signet ring is worn nicely on its own on the index finger or little finger, and it can also be stacked with a simpler ring on the neighbouring finger.
Signet rings with black agate or tiger's eye as a coloured stone
If you want a little more contrast in the silver, the signet ring is also available with a set stone. A rectangular signet ring tiger eye has a warm, golden-brown stone with a silky shine that changes depending on the light. If you prefer a deep, black surface, the signet ring comes with black agate in both an elongated and a square version. The elongated rectangular signet ring black agate is available in size 52, and the square square signet ring black agate is available in size 60. The black stone gives the ring a striking, calm expression that works well with a sharp and simple look.
Silver necklaces from fine to heavy links
The silver necklaces at Longvé range from fine, discreet chains to more striking links, so you can choose according to how much of a presence the necklace should have. A slim venezia necklace has a fine, square link that gives a smooth and calm line around the neck, and it is also available as a slim venezia necklace in a different length. A slim panzer necklace has the flattened, connected links that lie close against the skin and catch the light in an even shine. If you want more weight and definition, a thick cable necklace has heavier, open links that carry a striking expression entirely on their own.
The semi-long chains of 50 centimetres fall just below the collarbone and work both over a shirt and close against a simple blouse. Several of the chains can be worn together in different lengths, so they form layers against the neck.
Panzer bracelets in silver with flat, heavy links
A silver bracelet easily rounds off a set of jewellery. Longvé carries the panzer bracelet in sterling silver with the classic, flattened panzer link that lies snug and heavy around the wrist. It comes in two versions that cover different sizes. One panzer chain bracelet is available in 18, 19, 20 and 21 centimetres, and the other panzer chain bracelet is available in 18 and 19 centimetres. To find your length, you can measure around your wrist with a tape measure and add about 1 to 2 centimetres, depending on how loosely you want to wear the bracelet. A panzer bracelet suits both a bare arm and a watch on the same wrist.
How to care for your silver jewellery
Silver darkens when it reacts with sulphur in the air and with substances from skin, sweat and skincare products. It is a natural process, and the darkening can be removed again. With a little routine, your silver jewellery keeps its bright shine for a long time.
- Wipe the jewellery with a soft, dry cloth after use, so sweat and grease do not remain on it.
- Take off rings and bracelets before you shower, swim or clean, so they do not come into contact with soap, chlorine and chemicals.
- Apply perfume, cream and hand sanitiser before you put on the jewellery, and let it dry.
- Store each piece of jewellery dry and preferably separately, so the hard chains do not scratch the softer surfaces.
If the silver has already become dull or dark, you can polish it with a silver polishing cloth, which both removes tarnish and restores the shine. Fine chains with many links are most easily cleaned with a soft cloth and a mild washing-up liquid in lukewarm water, after which they are rinsed thoroughly and dried completely.
Silver or 14K white gold for a bright and cool look
Both silver and 14K white gold have a bright, cool colour, and many people confuse them at first glance. The difference lies in the material and in how they hold up. Sterling silver is a softer metal with a warm undertone in its shine, and it can tarnish over time, but it is easily brought back with a polishing cloth. 14K white gold is harder and keeps its bright colour without the same care. If you want signet rings, heavy chains and bracelets with a relaxed, everyday character, silver is an obvious choice. If you are looking for a piece of jewellery with diamonds and a completely hard surface, you will find it in Longvé's gold range. The two metals can easily be worn together if you like to mix cool shades.
